"Prodigal Sons" DVD: A Former High School Quarterback, Now a Transgender Woman, Returns to Her 20th High School Reunion in Helena, Montana. A Remarkable Documentary About Family, Acceptance in a Rural Western State, and Unexpected Twists and Turns Among Siblings.
Documentary Directed and Featuring and Kimberly Reed
BuzzFlash.com's Review (excerpt)

This is a remarkable documentary that appears at first to be about whether or not classmates at a Helena, Montana, high school reunion will be shocked (they aren't) when their former quarterback shows up as a transgender striking female. But the documentary takes an unexpected turn as an adopted brother with severe mental illness problems takes center stage and a family tries to reconcile with his volatile behavior. (It turns out, and this is true, that he is the grandson of Orson Welles and Rita Hayworth.)

This is a film rich with questions of personal identity, family acceptance, reconciliation and loss. Talk about a sleeper.

"Revealing and moving, not to be missed." - Erica Marcus, Bay Times

"Pretty amazing, takes you to some remarkable places." - Todd McCarthy, Variety

"I saw a film I can’t get out of my head. This documentary is an uncanny, haunting experience." - David Thompson, The Guardian

"A sweeping family saga that spans the globe and uncovers disturbing secrets as well as some remarkable connections, gathers a Shakespearian momentum, and which could make even the stoniest among us weep." - Oxford American

"Returning home to a small town in Montana for her high school reunion, filmmaker Kimberly Reed hopes for reconciliation with her long-estranged adopted brother, Marc. But along the way she uncovers stunning revelations, including Marc's blood relationship with Orson Welles and Rita Hayworth, intense sibling rivalries and unforeseeable twists of plot and gender that forces them to face challenges no one could imagine."
