5 Stars from BuzzFlash for Explaining How U.S. and European Wealth is Built on the Colonization of the Southern Nations. "End of Poverty, Think Again." (2010) DVD Documentary. Absolutely Illuminating.
Directed by Philippe Diaz
BuzzFlash.com's Review (excerpt)
The BuzzFlash Progressive Marketplace was created, in large part, for a documentary such as this one. You won't find it publicized or shown many places, because it details the historic dominance of the haves of the Northern Nations (U.S., Canada, and Europe and Japan) over the Southern Nations in a way that is persuasive and compelling. I won't even try to cover what the film so cogently accomplishes, except to say two things.

1) The Northern Nations (formerly the G-7) followed the conquest of the Americas with the extraction of the natural resources from the native populations and the real or virtual enslaving of the indigenous populations. In one silver mine in Bolivia, 8 million native minors are have said to have died extracting silver over several centuries that was sent back to Europe. 2) There is a direct lineage between the colonial conquest of Southern Nations by Europe, the U.S. (which invoked the Madison Doctrine to oversee puppet governments south of the border) and Asia by Japan that runs up to and is now overseen through a policy of creating Southern Nation indebtedness by the World Bank and International Monetary Fund. As with the original conquest of the Southern Hemisphere nations, the purpose of the conquerors is to plunder the wealth, obtain cheap, expendable labor, and make the poor nations further dependent on the wealthy nations by forcing them to import manufactured and agricultural goods from nations like the U.S. The World Bank and I.M.F. do not exist to foster sovereign independence of poor nations; they exist to increase the dependency of these nations on the Northern "haves" and increase their indebtedness.

This is a BuzzFlash 5 Star must see documentary that is the kind of special item you see sprinkled throughout the BuzzFlash Progressive Marketplace.

"The End of Poverty? is a daring, thought-provoking and very timely documentary by award-winning filmmaker, Philippe Diaz, revealing that poverty is not an accident. It began with military conquest, slavery and colonization that resulted in the seizure of land and other natural resources as well as in forced labor. Today, global poverty has reached new levels because of unfair debt, trade and tax policies -- in other words, wealthy countries exploiting the weaknesses of poor, developing countries The End of Poverty? asks why today 20% of the planet s population uses 80% of its resources and consumes 30% more than the planet can regenerate? Can we really end poverty under our current economic system? Think again. Filmed in the slums of Africa and the barrios of Latin America, The End of Poverty? features expert insights from: Nobel prize winners in Economics, Amartya Sen and Joseph Stiglitz; acclaimed authors Susan George, Eric Toussaint, John Perkins, Chalmers Johnson; university professors William Easterly and Michael Watts; government ministers such as Bolivia's Vice President Alvaro Garcia Linera and the leaders of social movements in Brazil, Venezuela, Kenya and Tanzania . It is produced by Cinema Libre Studio in collaboration with the Robert Schalkenbach Foundation."
