1  Media & Film / Documentary / Power Yoga Complete Collection, 162 Minutes on: June 02, 2010, 01:27:26 pm
Bryan Kest Power Yoga Complete Collection, 162 Minutes
BuzzFlash.com's Review (excerpt)
"'Anyone wanting to get in shape like the stars need go no further than Bryan Kest's videos. Kest teaches wildly popular yoga classes in Santa Monica, California--so popular that stars like Rhea Perlman, David Duchovny, and Elisabeth Shue willingly sweat alongside the hoi polloi in Kest's packed, ancient loft studio. If you don't happen to be in the neighborhood, not to worry: Kest's yoga videos are nearly as good as being there. Volume 1: Energize is a beginner level class that nonetheless is smartly designed to provide challenges for all levels of users. Kest's Jersey-boy voice at first seems in contrast to the serene environment and inner-peace objectives, but it gradually becomes soothing and hypnotic in its own right. Stretches and strengthening moves are alternated with just enough repose to keep even first timers on track. After mastering Vol. 1, practitioners can go on to Volume 2: Tone or Volume 3: Sweat to further challenge themselves. As long as you keep in mind Kest's personal mantra--"If you're doing the best you can, you're doing this class perfectly"--you and this video should have many satisfying years of workouts together.

1. Energize - Beginner Level
Feel the power. Be the power. Unlock the strengthening, slimming, detoxifying and reenergizing of Power Yoga. Bryant Kest leads you in vigorous workout based on the robust Ashtanga style of yoga.

"If you're doing the best you can, you're doing this class perfectly," Kest explains. After instructions on proper breathing, the session begins, taking you and an on-screen class through a variety of flowing, dynamic exercises (salutation, lungs, balancing, spinal stretches and more) augmented by Kest's demonstrations of the poses.

2. Tone - Intermediate Level
Challenge your muscular strength aerobic endurance, flexibility, balance and mental stamina with Tone.

An innovative series of lunge moves provides the primary activity in this workout that emphasizes finding your personal edge - the maximal yoga pose that still permits proper yogic breathing. Kest guides you and an in-studio class in a total-body regime that helps maintain flexibility and suppleness while building strength and well-being. Features comprising various poses are described so that you can add elements as you become more adept.

3. Sweat - Advanced Level
Looking for an advanced yoga routine? Then get ready to sweat.

"This program is definitely challenging," Kest admits about this maximal power-up session that builds upon the strength, stamina and flexibility cultivated in the first two Power Yoga programs, combining a vigorous lung series with extended standing balance and floor stretch moves, the routine flows from one pose to the next while working toward total body/mind harmony. The brisk pace provides instruction, encouragement and commentary to assist you and the on-screen class."

2  Media & Film / Cinema / "Independent Thinker" Review for BuzzFlash: Avatar on: June 02, 2010, 01:26:13 pm
Thom Hartmann's May Exclusive "Independent Thinker" Review for BuzzFlash: Avatar (DVD), 162 Minutes

THOM HARTMANN'S INDEPENDENT THINKER REVIEW OF THE MONTH FOR BUZZFLASH:
May 2010

Thom Hartmann's Review -- Exclusively for BuzzFlash -- for May 2010:

If you want to be entertained, Avatar is brilliant.

The two main hits on this movie are, one, that it's clichéd. Truth be told, it is a bit of a good old-fashioned action-adventure movie in which a bad corporation/country goes after your local poor natives who love the earth or, in this case, their own little sacred corner of their own planet.

The second hit on the movie is that it's implicitly racist: that it took a white guy to save the natives. It took the guy from the evil culture to save the day for the aboriginal culture that was under attack.

There's a large grain of truth with regard to the movie being clichéd. That said, clichés are clichés because they're grounded in an element of truth.

With regard to the movie being racist, there's actually a larger element of truth beyond the back story. That is, for most of the cultures that we have destroyed, any successful effort to remedy the damage that we wrought has been led by people from our culture.

For example, for many years the head of the NAACP was a white guy; the abolitionist movement was often led by white people; the women's suffrage movement in some cases got a lot of help from white males.

3  Media & Film / Documentary / The Most Dangerous Man in America: Daniel Ellsberg and the Pentagon Papers (DVD) on: June 02, 2010, 01:23:57 pm
The Most Dangerous Man in America: Daniel Ellsberg and the Pentagon Papers (DVD) Advance Order Discount, Only $24.75. Release Date is July 20th. Lock in Sale Price Now.
Starring Daniel Ellsberg as Himself
BuzzFlash.com's Review (excerpt)
Advance Order.

Henry Kissinger said that Daniel Ellsberg was the most dangerous man in America and had to be stopped. Why, because as this extraordinary Academy Award nominated documentary shows, Ellsberg revealed the truth about the Vietnam War and the lies of the Pentagon and White House to the American People.

Through BuzzFlash, we have gotten to know Daniel Ellsberg a bit, and he is one of the rarest of people, a whistle blower of conviction who is also down to earth; a person of conviction who still is arrested from time to time for standing up for what is moral and ethical.

While watching the riveting and well-made "The Most Dangerous Man in America," it became clear that Ellsberg is an all to rare hero: a person who believed wholeheartedly in war but who dramatically changed his conviction when exposed to the facts. Ellsberg chose to exposed the damning "Pentagon Papers" with his colleague, Tony Russo, because he had become convinced that the propaganda for the Vietnam War had little resemblance to the reality on the ground. He chose life and ethics over death and lies.

Ellsberg's voice is with you throughout the documentary, candid, firm and committed to doing the right thing. The film is part exploration of his character, part history, and part a fascinating thriller.

It was a different time when Ellsberg got the Washington Post and New York Times to publish the Pentagon Papers. First of all: they would never do that now, even if the Patriot Act weren't passed that would no doubt be invoked to prevent them from doing so. The Time and Post have become much too much a part of the status quo of power in D.C. -- and they wouldn't want to "ruin" their sources.

Ellsberg stands out as a man who was changed by the circumstances that he encountered in a career that spanned service in the military and at the highest levels of Southeast Asia foreign policy, practically the research point person on the War in Vietnam under Kissinger.

His is the story of a rare man, someone who evolved and knowingly took the risk of spending his life in jail in order to save lives and expose a government that had betrayed its citizens.

For him, it was a logical outcome of being exposed to the truth. For most Americans in government today, it's hiding the truth that gets one promoted.

In a curious side note, Ellsberg only avoided being sentenced to a long prison term because of court related issues that arose relating to Nixon's plumbers' unit and suppression of WH illegal activity by the DOJ prosecution.

In the end, this film will provide you with the backbone you need to face moral dilemmas with the kind of deliberative certitude of Daniel Ellsberg.

The guy is a patiot and a mensch. He took the rare risk of changing his opinion because of new facts that he became aware of, and not trying to change the facts to fit into a pre-conceived opinion. He had the courage to become transformed by reality.

Watch the the trailer of the video here.
